Taxonomy
Megaxinus stironensis was named by Kiel and Taviana (2018). Its type specimen is MGGC.22009, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Argille Azzurre, Stirone River [Lugagnano Fm], which is in a Zanclean deep-water mudstone in the Lugagnano Formation of Italy.
