Taxonomy
Giraffa pomeli was named by Arambourg (1979). Its type specimen is No. 1938-10:36, a tooth (m2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Aïn Hanech, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Algeria.
It was considered an invalid subgroup of Palaeotraginae by Harris et al. (2010).
