Propotamochoerus devauxi was named by Arambourg (1968). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fossiliferous spot T2, near Bou Hanifia, which is in a Tortonian terrestrial horizon in Algeria.
It was recombined as Nyanzachoerus devauxi by Bishop (2010).
