Taxonomy
Cistecephalus platyceps was named by Broom (1948). It is not extant. Its type specimen is RC 68, a skull. Its type locality is Murraysburg Commonage (Cistecephalus Assemblage Zone), which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in South Africa.
