Taxonomy
Witenia europea was named by de Bruijn et al. (2019). Its type specimen is BUS-608, a tooth (M1 dext), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Buštranje, which is in an Eocene terrestrial claystone in Serbia.
