Taxonomy
Prosciurus clausulus was named by Korth (2009). Its type specimen is CM 54074, a tooth (right M1 or M2), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Altasciurus clausulus by Korth and Tabrum (2017) and Korth et al. (2022).
