Olenus salteri was named by Callaway (1877).

It was recombined as Leptoplastus salteri by Stubblefield and Bulman (1927); it was recombined as Leptoplastoides salteri by Chatterton (1996); it was recombined as Leptoplastides salteri by Raw (1908), Jell and Adrain (2002).
