Rhinella arenarum was named by Hensel (1867). It is extant.

Synonyms
  • Bufo pisanoi was named by Casamiquela (1967). Its type specimen is NVL 2197, a partial skeleton (nearly complete left frontoparietal, 7th presacral vertebra, 8th and 9th (sacral) vertebrae, partial right femur), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cascada Grande, which is in a Messinian/Zanclean terrestrial horizon in the Irene Formation of Argentina.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Rhinella arenarum by Pérez Ben et al. (2014).
