Taxonomy
Callorhinchus was named by Lacépède (1798). It is extant. It is the type genus of Callorhynchinae, Callorhinchidae.

It was assigned to Callorhinchidae by Averianov (1997); to Callorhynchinae by Kriwet and Gazdizicki (2003); to Chimaeridae by Martin and Crame (2006); and to Callorhynchidae by Cicimurri and Ebersole (2015).
