Taxonomy
Orthechinorhinus was named by Adnet (2006). Its type is Orthechinorhinus pfeili. It is the type genus of Orthechinorhinidae.

It was assigned to Echinorhinidae by Cahuzac et al. (2007); to Etmopteridae by Welton (2016); and to Orthechinorhinidae by van der Laan (2019).
