Thyasira alaskana was named by Kauffman (1969). It is extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is USNM 140889, a valve (right valve). Its type locality is Carter Creek, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene marine sandstone in the Sagavanirktok Formation of Alaska.
