Taxonomy
Whitneya ficus was named by Gabb (1864). Its type specimen is ANSP 4331 (lectotype) and is a 3D body fossil.
It was considered a nomen nudum by Stewart (1927); it was recombined as Strepsidura ficus by Squires (1984), Squires (1987).
