Taxonomy
Portunites alaskensis was named by Rathbun (1926) [Originally named Portunites alaskensis by Rathbun 1926, but has since been reclassified as Megokkos alaskensis.]. It is the type species of Megokkos.

It was recombined as Megokkos alaskensis by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2000), Schweitzer et al. (2003), Nyborg et al. (2003) and Schweitzer et al. (2010).
