Taxonomy
Symplokeomys zaysanicus was named by Emry et al. (1997). Its type specimen is IZ NAS RK 35(10)/1843, a tooth (Left m1), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is K10, Zertsalo, which is in an Eocene terrestrial sandstone in the Aksyir Formation of Kazakhstan. It is the type species of Symplokeomys.
