Taxonomy
Promacrurus mimus was named by David (1956). Its type specimen is CIT 10518, an other (scale), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Amerada Petroleum Corp. Beer No. 1, which is in an Eocene/Eocene marine shale in the Kreyenhagen Formation of California.
