Ancistrolepis jimgoederti was named by Moore (1984). Its type specimen is LACMIP 6636, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP 5842, Knappton, which is in a Chattian deep-water shale in the Lincoln Creek Formation of Washington.
