Lophorhothon was named by Langston (1960). Its type is Lophorhothon atopus.

It was assigned to Hadrosauroidea by McDonald et al. Diagnosis

Reference	Diagnosis
W. Langston 1960	Cresed hadrosaurines with elevated cranium and short snout, broad orbits and wide temporal fenestrae; pyramidal crest on nasals resembling crest of Prosaurolophus but situated well forward of the orbits. Immature individuals with large fronto-nasal fontanel. Teeth with heavily crenulated enamel surfaces and denticulate coronal margins.
