It was assigned to Omphalosauria by Hay (1930); to Ichthysauria by Kuhn (1946); to Longipinnati by von Huene (1951); to Ichthyopterygia by Carroll (1988); and to Ichthyosauria by Shikama and Kamei (1978), Sander and Faber (1998), Maisch (2010).
