Taxonomy
Smithodus clarki was named by Buryi (1989). Its type specimen is DVGi Ex. 2B-10 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is River Rudnaya at Dalnegorsk (Sample P-240), which is in an Olenekian/Anisian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.
