Leptophragma was named by Zittel (1877) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call-l T Than Sepkoski's reference number: 622,868,1024]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Leptophragmatinae by Finks et al. (2004).
