Taxonomy
Squalus licha was named by Bonnaterre (1788). It is extant. It is the type species of Scymnorhinus, Scymnus.
It was recombined as Scymnus lichia by Cuvier (1817); it was recombined as Scymnorhinus licha by Ledoux (1972); it was misspelled as Scymnorhinus lichia by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Dalatias licha by Uyeno and Matsushima (1975), Keyes (1984), Karasawa (1989), Long (1992), Yabe and Hirayama (1998), Tanaka (2001), Suzuki (2005), Brisswalter (2009), Cigala Fulgosi et al. (2009), Straube et al. (2015), Carrillo-Briceño et al. (2015), Carrillo-Briceño et al. (2016).
