Taxonomy
Ischyodus smockii was named by Cope (1869). Its type specimen is AMNH 7192, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hornerstown area (Hornerstown Fm., AMNH collection), which is in a Maastrichtian marginal marine marl in the Hornerstown Formation of New Jersey.
It was recombined as Edaphodon smockii by Hay (1902), Fowler (1911).
