Ancistrolepidini was named by Habe and Sato (1973).

It was reranked as the subfamily Ancistrolepidinae by Titova (1994), Amano and Oleinik (2016).

It was assigned to Buccininae by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Buccinidae by Titova (1994), Amano and Oleinik (2016).
