Taxonomy

Zhyraornis was named by Nessov (1984). It is not extant. Its type is Zhyraornis kashkarovi. It is the type genus of Zhyraornithidae.

It was assigned to Zhyraornithidae by Nessov (1984), Carroll (1988); and to Alexornithidae by Kurochkin (2000).
