It was assigned to Dididae by Zittel (1890) and Lambrecht (1933); to Raphidae by Wetmore (1930) and Livezey and Zusi (2007); to Raphinae by del Hoyo et al. (2014); and to Columbidae by Olson (1985), Carroll (1988), Janoo (2005) and Clements et al. (2017).
