Taxonomy
Ambystomichnus montanensis was named by Gilmore (1928) [Trackways similar to those of Dicamptodon but twice as large and slightly longer in trunk region.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is USNM 7635 and is a trace fossil.
