Taxonomy
Mus bateae was named by Mayhew (1977). Its type specimen is Geol. Inst. Utrecht 266, a tooth (right M1), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Stavros Cave Micro, which is in a Pleistocene cave sandstone in Greece.
