Taxonomy
Metalia palmeri was named by Sanchez-Roig (1953). Its type specimen is Sanchez Roig Tipo No. 774, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SSE of Cartagena, Santa Clara, which is in an Eocene/Oligocene carbonate carbonate in Cuba.

It was recombined as Macropneustes (Macropneustes) palmeri by Kier (1984).
