Taxonomy
Scopelogadus capistranensis was named by Ebeling (1962). Its type specimen is YPM 3965, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South of Capistrano Beach, which is in a Miocene offshore shale in the Capistrano Formation of California.
