Taxonomy
Schizaster (Paraster) carinatus was named by McNamara and Philip (1980). Its type specimen is CPC 482 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Giralia Anticline, west flank, north end, which is in a Paleocene/Paleocene marine sandstone in the Pirie calcarenite Formation of Australia.
