Taxonomy
Cardiomys huemulensis was named by Kraglievich (1930). Its type specimen is MLP 79-II-1-1, a set of teeth (isolated left m1 or m2), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Microcardiodon huemulensis by Vucetich and Pérez (2011).
