Taxonomy
Leiopterella was named by Lamsdell et al. (2010). It is not extant. Its type is Leiopterella tetliei. It was considered monophyletic by Lamsdell et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Eurypterida by Lamsdell et al. (2010); and to Rhenopteridae by Dunlop et al. (2020) and Braddy et al. (2021).
