Taxonomy

Dasornis was named by Owen (1870) [also said to be 1869].

It was assigned to Gastornithidae by Lambrecht (1933); to Dasornithidae by Harrison and Walker (1976) and Harrison and Walker (1977); and to Pelagornithidae by Olson (1985), Carroll (1988), Mlikovsky (2002), Mayr (2008), Mayr and Smith (2010), Bourdon et al. (2010), Mayr and Zvonok (2011), Cenizo et al. (2015), Mayr and Smith (2019) and Mayr (2022).

Argillornis was named by Owen (1878).

It was synonymized subjectively with Dasornis by Mayr (2008).

It was assigned to Tubinares by Zittel (1890); to Sulides by Lambrecht (1933); to Dasornithidae by Harrison and Walker (1976) and Harrison and Walker (1977); to Pelagornithidae by Goedert (1989) and Mlikovsky (2002); and to Odontopterygiformes by Bourdon (2005).
Neptuniavis was named by Harrison and Walker (1977). Its type is Neptuniavis miranda.

It was synonymized subjectively with Dasornis by Mayr (2008).

It was assigned to Pelagornithidae by Mayr et al. (2002); and to Procellariidae by Harrison and Walker (1977) and Mlikovsky (2002).
Odontopteryx was named by Owen (1873).

It was synonymized subjectively with Dasornis by Bourdon et al. (2010) and Bourdon and Cappetta (2012).

It was assigned to Tubinares by Zittel (1890); to Odontopterygidae by Wetmore (1960), Harrison and Walker (1976) and Harrison and Walker (1977); to Odontopterygiformes by Bourdon (2005); and to Pelagornithidae by Carroll (1988), Mlikovsky (2002), González-Barba et al.
