Taxonomy
Steropodon was named by Archer et al. (1985). Its type is Steropodon galmani.
It was assigned to Steropodontidae by Flannery et al. (1995) and Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004); to Australosphenida by Rauhut et al. (2002) and Martin and Rauhut (2005); and to Ornithorhynchidae by Archer et al. (1985), Carroll (1988) and Rowe et al. (2008).
It was assigned to Steropodontidae by Flannery et al. (1995) and Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004); to Australosphenida by Rauhut et al. (2002) and Martin and Rauhut (2005); and to Ornithorhynchidae by Archer et al. (1985), Carroll (1988) and Rowe et al. (2008).
