Danubites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Ceratites (Danubites) by Diener (1897).

It was assigned to Ceratites by Diener (1897); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Danubitidae by Spath (1951), Nakazawa and Bando (1968), Tozer (1981), Vavilov and Arkadiev (1986) and Ehiro (2022).
