Falepetrus was named by Clemens and Lillegraven (1986). It is not extant. Its type is Falepetrus barwini.
It was assigned to Theria by Lillegraven and McKenna (1986); to Trituberculata by Clemens and Lillegraven (1986), McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Picopsidae by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
