Picopsis was named by Fox (1980). It is not extant. Its type is Picopsis pattersoni. It is the type genus of Picopsidae.

It was assigned to Picopsidae by Fox (1980), McKenna and Bell (1997), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
