Peradectes was named by Matthew and Granger (1921). Its type is Peradectes minor.

It was assigned to Didelphinae by Hay (1930), Clemens (1979); to Peradectini by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983), Krishtalka and Stucky (1983); to Didelphidae by Matthew and Granger (1921), Gingerich (1987), McKenna and Bell (1997); to Peradectidae by Williamson et al.
