Taxonomy

Peratherium was named by Aymard (1850) [also said to be 1846]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Didelphys by Cope (1879).

It was assigned to Didelphinae by Hay (1930); to Didelphini by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983), Krishtalka and Stucky (1983), Hooker (1986); to Herpetotheriinae by Korth (1994), Johanson (1996), Hooker (1996), Gunnell (2010); and to Didelphidae by Aymard (1850), Johnson (1966), McKenna and Bell (1997), Korth and Eaton (2004), Vianey-Liaud et al. (2014).

Synonyms

Entomacodon was named by Marsh (1872). Its type is Entomacodon minutus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Peratherium by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983); it was synonymized subjectively with Herpetotherium by Rothecker and Storer (1996).

It was assigned to Leptictidae by Hay (1902); to Nyctitheriidae by Hay (1930); to Plesiosoricidae by Van Valen (1967); and to Didelphidae by Marsh (1872), McKenna and Bell (1997).
Centracodon was named by Marsh (1872). Its type is Centracodon delicatus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Entomacodon by Matthew (1909), Robinson (1968); it was synonymized subjectively with Peratherium by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983); it was synonymized subjectively with Herpetotherium by Rothecker and Storer (1996).

It was assigned to Leptictidae by Hay (1902); and to Tenrecidae by Hay (1930).
