Taxonomy
Oxyrhina desorii praecursor was named by Leriche (1905).

It was synonymized subjectively with Oxyrhina praecursor americana by Leriche (1942); it was recombined as Isurus praecursor by Thurmond and Jones (1981), Squires (1984), Cione and Reguero (1994), Adnet (2006), Cantalice et al. (2019); it was recombined as Macrorhizodus praecursor by Otero et al. (2013), Cappetta and Case (2016), Ebersole et al. (2019), Trif et al. (2024), Ebersole et al. (2024), Popov et al. (2025).
