Perameles (Macrotis) was named by Reid (1837). It is extant.

It was reranked as Macrotis by Archer and Kirsch (1977), McKenna and Bell (1997), Wilson and Reeder (2005).

It was assigned to Perameles by Reid (1837); and to Thylacomyidae by Archer and Kirsch (1977), McKenna and Bell (1997), Wilson and Reeder (2005).

Synonyms
  • Thylacomys was named by Owen (1838) [validated (and misspelt as Thalacomys) by Blyth 1840, at which point Macrotis had already been proposed]. It is extant.

    It was considered a nomen nudum by Archer and Kirsch (1977).
