Prosopon excisum was named by von Meyer (1857). Its type specimen is neotype, Tubingen, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Longodromites excisus by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2009), Schweitzer et al. (2010).
