Xenacodon was named by Matthew and Granger (1921). It is not extant. Its type is Xenacodon mutilatus.
It was assigned to Leptictinae by Hay (1930); to Creotarsinae by Van Valen (1967); and to Leptictidae by Matthew and Granger (1921) and McKenna and Bell (1997).
