Taxonomy
Gastonia lorriemcwhinneyae was named by Kineer et al. (2016). Its type specimen is DMNH 49877, a partial skull (skull roof), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lorrie's Site, which is in an Aptian/Albian crevasse splay mudstone/sandstone in the Cedar Mountain Formation of Utah.

Kineer et al. 2016Differs from G. burgei in the following characters: flat skull roof, not domed; short paroccipital processes and proportionally less expanded distally; scapular blade parallel sided, slightly expanded distally in adult; postacetabular process of ilium is only 36% of the length of the preacetabular process as compared to 56% in G. burgei; ischium is smoothly curved ventromedially without kink at its midpoint.
