Taxonomy
Gyrineum uvasalis was named by Anderson and Hanna (1925). Its type specimen is CAS 829 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS loc. 245, Grapevine Canyon, which is in an Eocene marginal marine sandstone/shale in the Tejon Formation of California.
