Taxonomy
Paraphiomys simonsi was named by Wood (1968). Its type specimen is CGM 26908, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry I (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt. It is the type species of Monamys.
It was recombined as Monamys simonsi by Sallam and Seiffert (2019).
