Brachyerix was named by Matthew (1933). It is not extant. Its type is Brachyerix macrotis.

It was assigned to Protericini by Van Valen (1967); to Erinaceidae by Matthew (1933), Rich (1981); and to Brachyericinae by McKenna and Holton (1967), Gould (1995), Gunnell et al. (2008).
