Taxonomy
Todites maoricus was named by Retallack (1981). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NZ Geological Survey, B1087.40. Its type locality is Backyards Road cutting (S117/f754), which is in a Ladinian fluvial horizon in the Long Gully Formation of New Zealand.
