Aachenosaurus was named by Smets (1888). It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Nicolia by Hovelacque (1890).

It was assigned to Hadrosauridae by Smets (1888); and to Plantae by Dollo (1888), Andrews (1970).
