Tillodon was named by Gazin (1953). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Miyata (2007).
It was assigned to Esthonychidae by Carroll (1988); to Tillodontia by Wang and Jin (2004); and to Trogosinae by Gazin (1953), Lucas and Schoch (1998), Miyata (2007).
